Boogalows Island BBQ

CMNH Communications Intern, Dave Nassoura had the enviable task of sampling some of the food from one of our August 27, 2016 Dover Mini Maker Faire food vendors. He wisely chose Boogalows Island BBQ!

Boogalows Island BBQ, formally located in Kensington packed up their meat smokers and took them on the road in their Boogalow BBQ food truck. I got a chance to stop by and meet owners Sharee and Dave at the recent Stratham Fair. Sharee who is Jamaican herself made sure I got the full experience and hooked me up with a big plate of everything from mango chicken to Jamaican jerk pork and a refreshing Jamaican grapefruit soda called ting. I found myself in meat heaven as I stuffed my face with a Jamaican jerk drumstick fresh off the meat smoker. Everything was so flavorful and the meat smoker made the chicken fall right off the bone. The best part was that Sharee gave me a cup of spice jerk sauce which I proceeded to pour all over everything. Enter cloud nine!

boogalowsislandbbq-webIf you like spice Boogalows is the place to try, but if spice isn’t up your alley they’ve got you covered too. The mango chicken on a stick was definitely my favorite of the assortment of meats I had. The sweet flavor of the mango marinade was truly something I had never tasted and something I now need to taste again.

After my truly amazing island BBQ meal I got a chance to talk with Sharee who told me how the truck came to be. She said she noticed there weren’t many options for Jamaican BBQ in the area and decided that her and her husband Dave would follow their dreams and open a restaurant. Her husband Dave has been a chef for 20 years and she had worked in the hospitality industry. She said she “enjoys giving people what they want and making them happy,” which really does show as I watched her interact with each and every customer to make sure they got exactly what they wanted. She even replaced a customer’s meal when they realized they had accidentally ordered something spicy. The great knowledge and hospitality of Sharee coupled with Dave’s chef skills and those beautiful meat smokers makes the Boogalows Island BBQ truck a must “eat” for this year’s Dover Mini Maker Faire. Stop by and experience it for yourself!

Don’t wait to purchase tickets to this year’s Faire! Online tickets are only $10! They are $12 at the door.
